Frequently Asked Questions
Many people seem to be confused as to the purpose and difference between Limited and Full registration papers. It really is quite simple:

Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration.

No offspring of a dog for which Limited Registration has been granted is eligible for registration. Each registration certificate for such dog shall carry notice of the limitation, and the limitation shall continue, regardless of any change of ownership, unless and until the owner(s) of the litter at birth shall apply to AKC for removal of the limitation."

A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in a licensed or member dog show. It is eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member event. These events include: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility and Earthdog.

Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white with a purple border.

Limited Registration helps breeders protect their breeding programs. If breeders do not want puppies used for breeding purposes, they can request the Limited Registration option for those puppies.

Limited registration is for people and dogs that are going to be pets.  They will NOT however, be used as breeding animals.

The dog with the Limited reg. papers IS registered! The only difference is that his or her PUPS CANNOT be registered.

The dog cannot be bench (dog show) conformation shown since this is a “show case” of breeding animals only. They can enter and gain points and titles in “activity” related events, such as hunt tests, field trials, agility, fly ball, dock dog, etc…..

Full Registration ~ Full reg. is for breeding stock dogs and those that are being actively shown in the bench (dog show) conformation ring.

If you ARE NOT a breeder, you DO NOT need full registration on your dog. The only difference between Limited and Full is that with Full registration, IF your dog has pups, they can be registered with either Full or Limited registration.

Every puppy from Lutz Bullmastiff Country is an AKC Registered Puppy. When puppies go to their new homes, they are sold on either Full or Limited Registration. The only difference between the two types of registration is whether or not the dog is eligible to be used for breeding and showing in conformation. Puppies purchased as show puppies or as breeding stock are sold on Full Registration. Puppies purchased for any other purpose are sold on Limited Registration.

If you don't intend to show or breed your dog, there is no reason to have Full Registration on your puppy, dogs with limited registration can be shown in any event except conformation. Full Registration does not affect the quality of the puppy, it simply designates the purpose for the puppy.
